COMPASSION-FOCUSED THERAPY

Compassion-focused therapy (CFT) is a type of psychotherapy designed to help those who suffer from high levels of shame and self-criticism. It helps us to learn how to feel kinder towards ourselves and others, and to feel safe and capable in a world that can seem overwhelming.  CFT is founded by British clinical psychologist Paul Raymond Gilbert.

MINDFULNESS

Our minds are often busy and get distracted.  When this happens it is harder to make good decisions.  We may also find that we are often judging things including ourselves and that when we feel low or anxious we will have lots of negative thoughts. This can add to our distress.

Mindfulness is being in the present moment. It involves paying attention to one thing and not judging it as good or bad.  We will still have thoughts enter our minds but we can learn to note this happening and return to the present. Through mindfulness, we learn to tune in to what is going on in our minds and body day to day without judging our experiences.
